Rehearsal Schedule Sept. 29-October 3

Last week the music room was a flurry of activity as Miss Gallant, Ms. Schurman, and Mme Duncan saw many talented students audition for Show Band. Thank you to each and every student that prepared an audition - Parkside sure has a lot of talent! It was a very tough decision, but the Show Band list has been made and will be posted on Monday outside of the music room.

As an additional note - Show Band can only take 6 singers. Because of the overwhelming number of singers that auditioned, Miss Gallant has decided to form an additional small vocal group that will also prepare and perform music similar to that of Show Band. A list of students who are invited to join this group will be posted on Monday outside the music room as well.

Miss Gallant would also like to remind all students that Elementary choir is open to all students in grades 3-6 that love to sing!

Audition/Rehearsal Schedule September 22-25

The following is a basic version of this week's audition/rehearsal schedule. A more detailed schedule (including students' individual audition times) is posted outside the music room. The audition schedule has also been added to the daily morning announcements. Students also received a sheet indicating their individual audition time last week at the Show Band meeting.

Please note that Elementary Choir is open to any student in grades 3-6 who love to sing! No audition required for this group. Students will be able to try choir for the first 2 practices before they need to decide whether to commit to the group or not. Show Band Auditions & Elementary Choir Startup

Show Band Auditions

Students in grades 5 & 6 who sing or play guitar, bass, drums, or keyboard were invited to a meeting on Tuesday of this week to find out about Parkside's Show Bands. Interested students signed up for audition times. Audition times were sent home along with audition information and a short questionnaire. The questionnaire must be returned to Miss Gallant at the audition. If you child is interested in auditioning but missed the meeting, please ask him/her to see Miss Gallant by Monday morning, September 22.


Elementary Choir Startup
Students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 who love to sing were invited to a meeting today (Thursday) to find out about Parkside's Elementary Choir. This group is open to anyone who loves to sing. If your child is interested but missed the meeting, it's not too late! The first rehearsal will take place on Wednesday, September 24 at 10:20AM. Students will have the opportunity to try choir for 2 practices to decide if they'd like to join officially. If they decide to join, they are committing to remain in the choir until after the Christmas concert in December. Students can then decide if they'd like to join choir again in January or not.

Show Band & Elementary Choir

Extra curricular music groups will be kicking off this week! I send a rehearsal schedule to homeroom teachers each week. I will also post the schedule outside the music room as well as list rehearsals on the weekly calendar on the music room whiteboard. I also put rehearsals in the daily morning announcements.

·        Show Band is an auditioned group for experienced vocalists, guitarists, bassists, drummers, and keyboard players. If all spots are not filled by grade 5 & 6 students, Show Band auditions will be opened to students in grade 4.

     Elementary Choir is open to any students in grades 3-6 who love to sing!

     Primary Choir is open to any students in kindergarten, grade 1, or grade 2 who love to sing! This group will begin later in the fall. 

Welcome Back! September 2014

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!
There will be lots of exciting things happening in the music department at Parkside Elementary this year.
In addition to making music in class, students also have the opportunity to join various extra-curricular musical groups. This year we will begin with choir (grades K-6) and show band (grades 5-6). Stay tuned for more information about these groups!

This week, grades 4-6 students were introduced to this video:
